Five years ago, we almost closed for good. This is the story of how a small shop nobody could find became Laura & Paige Charleston, and how one difficult week turned into something we never expected.

A street nobody walked down
Laura's shop sat on a side street in Charleston, two blocks off from where anyone actually walked. It was small and quiet, easy to miss if you didn't already know it was there. But the women who did find it kept coming back, year after year, season after season. They knew Laura by name, and she knew theirs too.
Still, a loyal handful of customers wasn't enough to keep the lights on. Rent in Charleston doesn't wait for word of mouth to catch up, and month after month, the math got harder to make work.
Fifteen years of buying for a street nobody walked down. Fifteen years of believing the next season might finally be the one that turned things around.

One last week
The week Laura finally decided to close the shop for good, her daughter Paige asked for a little more time. She spent that week photographing everything left on the rack, piece by piece, and putting it online with nothing more than a phone and the hope that someone, somewhere, might want what Laura had spent years choosing with care.
Three days later, the first order came in. It was from a woman in Ohio, someone who would never have had a reason to walk past that quiet street in Charleston, let alone step inside the shop. She had simply found a photo online and known she wanted it.

That single order changed everything. It was the moment the shop stopped being limited to the people who happened to walk by, and started reaching women who would never have found it any other way.
Today, we build on the fifteen years that came before that moment. The way we choose each piece and the care we put into every detail never changed when we moved online. What changed was how many women got to be part of it.
